Part 7 of Leon Flamholc's documentary (1987), from a 5 month undercover journey with the mujahedin inside Afghanistan, during the Soviet occupation. Leon travelled by foot from Peshawar, through Kandahar up to Herat, filming guerilla's fight against the Soviet army.

mountains do help to a certain degree but its one of the greatest myths and excuse of those who try to conquer Afghanistan, that you cant succeed there because of the terrain. The reality is the soviets failed miserably when they came to the south i.e. Kandahar, Helmand and so are the Americans and its allies in these same areas. it is note worthy that these areas are low lands with hardly any mountains at all. The reality is mountains or desert either way no one can take us on. inshallah

Next year the Soviet were gone, but the central Herat was not liberated until 1992.
