Practising my boot shine skills on some brown Tony Lama lizard cowboy boots. It's currently taking me 25 minutes to clean, condition, polish, shine and edge (dye) the soles and heels.

I'm looking for feedback on which steps you think I should be quicker at to cut down the total boot shine time. Thanks for your comments!

  • hi , i have a many air of lizzard boots. that i havnt worn in a long while . I purchased them in from 1996 to 2002. My question is this they are so dry that they are stiff. I have applied conditioners they seem to soften up but im afaid if i wear them they will split? As i have had one pair do so already. was wondering if youu would have any thoughts on how to give them back their flexibility . Shame too because they are al like new worn very liite

  • @hamesh3474 - Do you use a conditioner made specifically for exotic boots (rather than a leather conditioner)? This can be a tough product to find, but it can be found. Try conditioning your boots every few days and see if that softens them up before wearing them. I have read that boots should be conditioned anywhere from one month to once every season. If they have been neglected for years, it might not be possible to bring them back to how they used to be. Sorry if this is bad news! :-(

  • This is a fetish thing, right? You get off shinning shoes, lol?

  • @infernalsun - At one point I was going to be the relief worker at a shoeshine stand at a major hotel, but the deal the guy I was going to work for fell through. A month or so after that, I saw this shoeshine box for real cheap on craigslist and decided to buy it. Thought maybe I'd see if I could make a go of things as a home business, but it looks like that is not to be either! So I do this now and then when the opportunity arises. I plan to make more videos talking about how I got started.

  • Thanks for your comment. With the conditioner, I keep at it until I feel it's absorbed enough that the polish will take. Will think about your comment and see if this is the spot where I could speed things up. Thanks again!

  • @vancouverCANADAdude Yes, I was also wondering about snake or alligator/croc skin shoes, because at times the scales feel like they will crack or flake off if I apply any type of polish! how would I restore those type of animal shoes? thanks.

  • have you seen the video of the woman that does boot shines at conventions. Someone hires her to give 'free" boot shines (she gets tips also) and she draws people to the booth. Might be an interesting to try...(put in boot shine convention).

  • I've noticed that you spend a lot of time applying the conditioner/polish and you go over and over the same spotsfor a long time, you could shorten this time by a few minutes, but the guy in the boots would receive less of a foot massage.

either way, Great Work A Plus !!
