  • @nosamici If you look at my uploads, I have an interview with Jo Stafford and she says the Bee Gees were not happy with her version

  • Back in the day, I put this song on a cassette three times in a row, and then set a ghetto blaster outside my roomates' bedroom door first thing in the morning, hit play, and ran out the door and went to work with the thing blaring outside his door. Heh, heh. Still makes me smile. He thought it was funny at first, but when it started repeating, he said it wasn't funny anymore!

  • @casestudyification: Yes, it's really Jo Stafford, the lady we otherwise know as a brilliant, pitch-perfect singer.....and she won a Grammy for her work as Darlene in the Comedy Record category. I just wonder what the Bee Gees thought!

  • This is so bad I have to like it.

  • Wow - Awesome!

  • Yeah, but can you dance to it?!!! Jo Stafford is such a good singer, and here so consistently awful that it's funny especially if you knowabout Jonathan and Darlene Edwards. Jo once said in an interview with Gene Lees that it was in fact harder for her to sing like this, since she was so experienced at singing correctly - hearing each pitch a split second before she sang. She had to concentrate constantly on actually being off pitch. I'm a singer so I know what she is talking about.

  • @markxxx21 I'm pretty good at singing deliberately out of tune also. It's just that here you have a lady with a prestigious career, and darn near destroys it with this alter ego thing. You know? Hard to believe.

  • @casestudyification

Actually it's not that hard to do. She just sings flat in the wrong key to the music. Jo was BRILLIANT. It's a shame few people remember her today. She was the number 1 female vocalist of the first have of the 20th Century.

  • Holy Moly, I first heard this on the good Dr. Demento's show. ......Somebody clue me in here, I'm having trouble accepting this--is this really Jo Stafford? Jo Stafford could sing in real life, right?
