In this video, we discuss my frustration with authors that use "said" too often. If you want to improve your writing immensely, here's a simple tip that works universally: get a thesaurus and figure out other ways of writing "said." Like "he implied." "She intoned." "He snickered." The possibilities are endless.

I also try to prove that words are essentially meaningless, and thatapos;s why it takes an exceptionally skilled author to draw us into a story and hold us there against our will. Because all we are looking at are squiggles on a page. That's it!

  • in other words,

    ~be seductive(as always) XD

~Adverbs and adjectives are everything, as long as the -ly adverbs and adjectives are few, far, and in between.

    ~dont be redundant

do i win a consolation prize??

  • you write books too? I quite at life.

  • Good advice, now on another note, are you a girl on a boys body?

  • My grade five teacher gave us this advice when we were writing stories for class. He actually made a rule that we weren't allowed to use the word "said" in our stories at all. Not even once. This was to force us to use a wider range of words to describe how the characters speak. Definitely good advice, you should try it!

  • You are a near relative of a deconstructionist. wait a second. that doesn't make sense because my words are meaningless. Which means if they are meaningless, I've been thinking and basing them from a meaningless source.

As a matter of fact, don't pay attention to the comment. It is meaningless. If you truly do care, just read it and...........................................................

  • You are so right, Neil!

Actually I said that in my mind before writing it.

sorta creepy....... yeah. oh dear, I'm answering myself now, gotta go!

  • "I'm going outside." That's what she said. LOL!!!

    "Great job, Neil," I said.
