Backdraft is caused by an oxygen starved fire. Flashover is a heat driven event. This was niether. This was either a collapse in the center of the building causing the fire to be forced out, or a compressed flammable gas being released rapidly. Either way it is impressive and should be a lesson to all FF that even after a fire has vented and appears to be in a stable state a rapid acceleration of the fire can occur for many reasons. Never get complacent that is what gets us killed.

An old led 4in. gas line melted and accelerated the fire. The biulding was full of funiture that burning and created the flamable gas @ high temp . The natral gas had a lower burning temp which cased the flash fire and explotion .

I too am a firefighter from Pa. Butler Pa. i just finished up with essentials and one thing that i see wrong, is the hose line to the right of the scene is on a wide fog, and a wide fog will move alot of air, so the conclusion i came up with is that he forced too much air into the open windows and that is what caused the inital flashover, then onto the backdraft. What you think?

i agree. it wasnt backdraft or flashover. it was a ball of fire being blown out the sides of a falling building...impressive either way though...
