This 6 course Lombard mandolin, from Jean-Paul Bazin's collection, seems to be the most appropriate instrument for playing Don Giovanni's Serenade. You can see and hear it in a short solo sequence, and then with "La Grande Ecurie et la Chambre du Roy", conductor Jean-Claude Malgloire, singer Nicolas Rivenq. Live recording in Orleans, Nov. 2006. www.GerardRebours.com

  • Yes indeed, it is a 6 course Lombarde mandolin, that seems quite appropriate for this serenata, and that was also in use in Vienna then.

  • This is not a Neapolitan mandolin.
