  • Listen for "The Firebird" closing cadence at the end. Subversive one, that Shaw, sneaking in a snippet of Stranvinsky!

By the way, this has BETTER sound than my my 7 copy. I think the Canadian division used better shellac.

  • @JCJasion I believe I cleaned up the recording after transferring it though the sound wasn't that horrible to begin with.

  • You get great sound on your vids! Maybe I should just get one of these Numark's instead of using vintage TTs for 78s. What do you use for premp/eq ?

  • @beautman1 Either the preamp on my Pioneer SX-1050 or the built in one on the turntable. To be honest I don't adjust the signal for older recordings because I find it actually worsens the sound. A newer Newmark like this might be good, depending on the turntable you're using. I'd of course trade this setup for a good quality 1950s transcription turntable but if you're using a Dual or especially Gerrard then this is definitely a better setup. I do miss the automatic functions though.

  • Smooth. Makes me want to dance with Myrna Loy in a 40's night club. ;-P

  • I agree with a number of the comments - the sound is excellent. This is the ultimate recording of this song! It's a great song - Artie Shaw made it greater! I first heard this as a kid in the late 60's ...it blew me away and still does. I told my dad he had great music when he was a kid!
