Maybe there's a pious equivalent in other religions, where there's a post-script where everyone goes to heaven or hell based on what happened. I guess that's why so many jokes do that. In Christianity, where you end up is sort of the punchline, but there's not really the same sort of punchline in reincarnation, since life goes on :)
