@CoreyForeside it looks average, but there is never an intrusion inside in a crash and there are additional crumple zones left after the crash so it will absorb even more forces (like crashing at higher speeds) without bending rock solid safety cage.
+ since 1st volvo s80, there is a huge array of sensors all over volvo cars to make sure occupants evade or minimize injuries.
for example, laguna fares better than s60 in ncap, but in 100kmh crash, laguna occupants die, volvo's survive.

its probably airbag smoke, and the outlander just has different airbags. I wouldn't worry about smoke anyways as long as there is no fire.
