Janice Riggle Huie serves as bishop of the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, having been assigned there in September 2004.

Following the preamble by Sister Helen Prejean, this is the fourth of seven dispositions, or expository statements about the morality of capital punishment. A panel of pre-eminent spiritual thinkers shared their thoughts about the death penalty, in the city that is the seat of the county many think of as the execution capitol of the western world. The event, which took place January 18, 2001, in Zilkha Hall at Hobby Center, Houston, Texas, was sponsored by many organizations, most of which will be identified in comments.
