Sri Lanka and Vietnam have signed five bilateral agreements. Vietnam has expressed full support for oil exploration in Sri Lanka.
Today was the second day of the President Rajapaksas official visit to Vietnam. The five agreements were signed under the guidance of the President to further strengthen bilateral ties.
Minister Anura Priyadahashana Yapa inked an agreement on protection and promotion of investments. The Vietnamese Investment Minister Vo Hon Phuc signed on behalf of Vietnam.
Minister Rohitha Bogollagama and the Vietnamese Permanent Deputy Minister of Culture Sports and Tourism Nguyen Danh Thai signed a Cultural Cooperation Agreement. Minister Rohitha Bogollagama signed an Agricultural Development Cooperation Agreement with Vitanamese Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development Vu Van Tam.
Another agreement on a work plan for the year 2010 to 2013 pertaining to technical assistance from Vietnam for aquaculture was also signed. Both parties entered into an agreement on cooperation on prevention and combating crime. Additional Secretary to the President Gamini Senerath and Chief of Staff of President and Permanent Deputy Minister of Public Security Nguyen Khanh Toan signed this agreement.
Meanwhile the Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dang expressed support for oil exploration in Sri Lanka. The President had official talks with the Vietnamese Prime Minister last afternoon. Vietnams assured its support to Sri Lanka to prevent the terrorists raising their heads again. He applauded the demining process in Sri Lanka. The annual trade value between the two counties is 65 million Dollars. It was agreed to increase this to 100 million Dollars in 2012.
