My Favorite Things: Designs by Marian (John Coltrane Version)

My sister, Marian Collier, designed all of the clothing on this video. She is my favorite designer and stylist, and, also, one of the best designers in the country. Since I did not have a video I felt this would be the best way to show my love of the music and of her fashions.

One of my favorite musicals is "The Sound of Music." I can remember singing ALL of the songs but there was something about MY FAVORITE THINGS. Of course, when I heard the John Coltrane version, that took my love for the song and me to another level in jazz. I hope the fun in doing this recording is reflected.

I recorded this tune with Wade Beach (p), Wes Biles (b), and Art Cobb (d). These are local cats that have been around the world with this music. We were over at Fox Haven in Olney, MD and my cousin, Scott Ambush, helped me out as the producer!

Although I enjoy the original version by Mary Martin and Julie Andrews there is nothing like 5/4 time with a rhythm section that can kick butt!

Great video, classic music, wondrous singing!

The way you sing the melody is remarkably similar in style & feel to that of 'Trane's early '60s recordings of My Favorite Things - one of my favorite tunes, BTW.
