what annoys me the most from the people who played the original is the fact VERY few have actually bothered to realize this is a revamp of the game they love for todays market. sure the changes are large but where the HELL do you all get off saying its inferior just because its not a direct snes port? Seriously if all you have to do is bitch then play the original and ignore this.

@ameldia But there are still 2 problems, which surely bother most of the "old" fans.

1) Why has in general everything to be remaked and new designed from the ground? If you want to share the experience to todays players, why don't use simply a port?

2) Why had all Character-Designs to be completly new and "modern"? Maxim weared an armor, because he was a warrior and not a biker with a leather jacket, for gods sake!

I appreciate a remake for modern audience, but not, that it changes everything.

@soratazharatos I kinda like maxims new look, to be serious. But look what they did to Dekar and Guy! Is Dekar a gun-wearing soldier? With a Laboratory look? And Guy? Is he a fuckin' bodybuilder?! -_-' That really annoys me. The overworld system is just a card without any action. And Tia has a bag. but somehow, Maxim is okay for me. My quote is: Acceptable, but not as good as the original.

@Riketz especially the opening: The original lived from the upcoming suspense of the sinistral BECAUSE you never saw them except for Erim and Arek (and from the music). But here? Oh. You see the sinistrals and Gades is acting as he is the stereotypic stupid evil overlord... I can clearly see, why the revamp is far better than the original... <.< Was it so impossible simply to use the original script as orientation? If you can't tell a story properly, you shouldn't make an RPG...

@Riketz which "story"? Oh, you mean the genius plot where no real drama and/or suspense is coming up... Great. For whatever reason, Gades makes a stereotypic-as-hell-villian-sp­eech and you have to defeat him as a mech for no good reason. And then the entire drama around Tia, who left in the original the party forever, because she couldn't live Maxims life alongside with him is bashed up, by the fact that she comes still back?! Maybe the setting is nice revamp, but the storytelling fails.

@soratazharatos Hi, fan of the original Lufia 2 here. Noticed your anti-DS version rant spanning pages, so here's a counterpoint. The steampunk/magitech world revamp beats the shit out of a bunch of generic as hell looking cities and backdrops, and the modern styles on the characters does a fantastic job at creating a contrast between the humans and the Sinistrals, and between human self reliance/creativity vs the armor wearing Sinistrals showing an outdated mindset. Mirrors the story perfectly.

I only used Guy for that one fight with Idura, breaking rocks, and Miracle-ing Maxim. He's too slow to do anything worthwhile.

Selan? Those silly boomerang puzzles.

I never touched Dekar, since he felt similar to Maxim, but without the XDash.

Tia is too paper to use for most later stuff.

It's a good thing I used Maxim throughout most of the game, though if I didn't, I would have been in a very, very tough spot. I got lucky. :p

I could rant and rave about this game, but really, there was one thing that I just could not forgive.

By the end of the game, your entire party except for Maxim MAYBE Selan and potentially Dekar if you loved him as much as I did, were totally worthless. Their job was to sit around and be an extra life so you can revive Maxim if he dies. The dynamic of the original, where all of them had their strengths and weaknesses, and they were all valuable, was destroyed. The final battle was a 1v1! No

@Ohnogiantrobots But the real epic fail lies within the intro of the game... With a pointless stereotypic Villian presentation which shows Gades as more retarded than usual... Take the original Meeting with Arek in the intro! You don't even see most of the sinistral till their apperance in the middle of the game. I just can't believe, how the same developers can fuck-up this kind of simple story telling which they already mastered once...<_<
