It's been ages since I made a YouTube-type video, so back in January 2011, I made this little video. It took me a few months to get around to editing it and getting it online because I've been away an awful lot lately.
This is a great song, and it was a riot bringing it to life for piano and voice. I hope you enjoy it.
My apologies for all the squeaking sounds in this video. I have some hearing problems (probably as a result of my tinnitus!), and I was totally unaware that my spastic leg was making any background noise - that is, until I edited this video together. I hope it's not too distracting!
Enjoy. I hope to get more videos up in the near future, but first, I have to get that piano tuned!!!
Take care and thanks for watching/listening.
Ian

  • Hey Ian!

I have a question that s in my head for several weeks....

Will you do all these covers (mainly Genesis and Yes's) within the original key?

If it is (and it seems so) its pretty defying. When covering Jon Anderson, sometimes it looks like you go to falsetto? Am i correct?

    Thanks!

  • @2Slipperman As far as falsetto goes, I don't usually sing in falsetto and neither does Jon. It's in my natural range to hit higher notes (like the one at the very end of Heart of the Sunrise - "city..." goes to a high D, and I just "squeeze 'em and go for it." I CAN sing falsetto, but for stuff like this, I sing it the way I hear it, and if Jon didn't do falsetto, then I don't either. It's amazing how the brain remembers things without consciously thinking of them!

  • That was awesome. Great PG style singing as well... Thanks a lot..

  • @sqwank2 Thank YOU!

  • My second favourite song from this album done extremely well!

  • @untensil Thanks so much!

  • Nice, NICE, NICE!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations!!! You can sing in my version if you want.

  • "You're telling me!" hahaha. Nice cover Ian. You've captured the manic chaos and surrealism of one of my fave Genesis tracks. Thanks Ian. =)

  • this is such a great song (and cover)

  • Thank you very much! Well done.

  • Fucking amazing! I enjoyed this almost as much as the original!

I want to hear you cover Harold the Barrel!

    Well done mate, awesome.

  • Incredible.

  • @2Slipperman Thanks for the question. I'm not a big fan of changing keys, because my ears are such that I hear the correct notes in my head. Having to learn something in a different key actually messes up my muscle memory, especially when it's something that has been in my brain for years and years. Thanks for the compliment though. I have a similar range to Jon, and when I was younger, i was always compared to him, so I actually started trying to NOT sound like him anymore!!

  • @messvideos1 Thank you very much for that. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
