I went to the enormous Galesburg Yard to get a few shots before I left. When I got around the North end of the yard, GN SD39 #1924 was spotted switching. BNSF has been giving their yard switchers reporting marks like "GN" to open up more numbers for newer locos.

Next I viewed the engine facility atop the Rt-10 bridge that pretty much cuts the yard in half. A great assortment of power hung around the shops today including an IC&E SD40-2. It was pretty quiet South of the bridge. Two Cascade SD40-2s idle by the tower waiting to be recrewed.

  • Nice to see some yard action from Galesburg, Frank! Awesome job. Thirwell road has always been a great train watching site. Not sure what Mark519911 is talking about being "illegal", but the police sometimes visit you up there, and once they determine your ID and that you are a railfan, they pretty much leave you alone. My niece and a couple friends of mine work there in the yard. I also know a few of the hostlers in the pit area.

  • Beautiful quality video and excellent capture of the action!

  • BNSF has those engines in their yard so that means theyre useing them

  • HEY! BNSF Give Norfolk Southern back their engines! get your own!!!

  • funny thing is, this is illegal.

  • @skinnyshit8888 Yes. It's an old Santa Fe loco, but BNSF was formed when Burlington Northern and Santa Fe combined...hence the name

    Burlington

    Northern

    Santa

    Fe

  • ICE at 1:23?
