This is also the way that they used to dress up for movie premieres back then: the tuxes, the gowns, the jewels, the furs, the long white gloves, and so forth. Nowadays, they dress like slobs at the premieres. Even the men who go to the Oscars don't even wear a tie. They also wear a business suit instead of a traditional tux.

Funny but looking at this makes me think the Oscars were pretentious bullshit then and now. No one is finding the cure for cancer but they all think they are.

jhassett2. i have seen the oscar more than i care to admit, but never for more than 10 minutes at a time, which is about how long i can watch it w/o becoming bilious;
it is SO bad it's a masterpiece, but keep your viewing times curtailed--

if you've gotten your inoculations; best check w/ the CDC--or at least keep a barf bag close at hand; why they never used THIS at Gitmo baffles me [the dream sequence featuring the pulsatile head of peter lawford alone would have unzipped my lip in roughly ten seconds], although perhaps even the Bush Administration would go only so far--good luck, and be sure to take frequent breaks to rehydrate--

The theme was used for Dream Girl '67. It was a daily mini Miss USA like pageant on the ABC network.
