YADDO @ Saratoga, NY Part 1

The historic Yaddo Gardens were designed in 1899 by Spencer Trask as a gift of love to his wife, Katrina. The Trasks based their design for the rose garden on Italian classical gardens which they had seen on trips abroad. The adjoining rock garden expresses in contrast an Anglo-American tradition of interest in indigenous landscape. Together, the gardens combine the formal and the free, the poetic and the idyllic, human art, and nature. Katrina Trask, a poet and playwright, wanted her garden to be a garden of delight, a garden of romance, as an expression of her own life. The Yaddo Gardens comprise approximately 10 acres of the 400-acre Yaddo estate, home to a world renowned artists' residency program since 1926. General admission is free :-)

Artists, writers, and musicians from all over the United States come to this highly regarded artists' colony to work. The estate was built in 1899 by philanthropist Spencer Trask as a gift to his wife, Katrina. Although you can't visit the house, you can tour the grounds, which include a formal rose garden with fountains and an informal rock garden. From mid-June through the racing season.

You are right, its like a hidden secret in Saratoga. You dont know there is more to SEE than just that rose garden as well. I love to go there. I bet you were virtually alone right? Im amazed if anyone is there besides me LOL I never see people there.
