some believe the similarities between old irish and sandskrit means there is a link in the past between the the two cultures where there was migrations from India to the west.

I think it depends on what hempisphere you're in.
The western hempisphere's language came from Latin and Greek. As for the Eastern, I don't know much about it, so I can't really comment on that.
