Declaration of the Family - http://www.lds.org/library/display/0,4945,161-1-11-1,00.html

The churches official news press release about Proposition 8 and it's continued support to protect marriage as being between 1 man and 1 woman.

Voters in California, once again, are being overturned by a judge. An appeal is sure to follow. Neither on any side will be happy no matter HOW it settles but will it ever settle?

As latter-day Saints and followers of Jesus Christ, I would continue to admonish you to treat this subject with respect and support whatever side of the issue that you choose to; but that you do so with respect one towards another. This was the message approved by the quorum of the 12 Apostles.

The debate is far from over.

As members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints very nicely we have always taught to love the sinner and hate the sin. However, I have seen some other so-called "Christians" that truly do not show the same unconditional love as what we are taught at least in my own experience and from what I have seen when it comes to some other differences including homosexuality. That said, the argument that just because we love all unconditionally means we must accept their lifestyle is invalid.

By the very definition of the word "unconditionally" it means that we choose to accept them as brothers and sisters and fellow human beings despite philosophical, religious, political, personal differences.

  • Thank God that there is still enough freedom that we can post things like this even on places like YouTube!

  • @muel0341 Amen you can not give one the right to speak and the other not and claim we live in a free country. God bless America we must stand up for our rights and freedoms or we will be more likely to lose them. Thanks of your comment never give up the fight for human rights and freedoms.

  • Until 1973, homosexuality was once defined as a mental disorder in the DSM (the Bible for mental disorders).

This is the core of the debate. For someone mentally instable (I have no judgement) it is impossible for them to recognize their own hypocrisy & their own bigotry.

You cannot make any valid points to someone whose brain is wired differently. This becomes very dangerous when you see them snap and vandalize LDS Churches-Temples and threaten those who oppose with violence.

  • @DrPorterRockwell I believe you have some valid points. Something that is not widely known is that homosexual activists actually intimidated the APA(American Psychological Association) with threats just as they have those for Proposition 8. They did so to the point that the APA actually due to the pressure they removed homosexuality from the DSM. Some have done this to the APA, Prop 8 suppporters and will likely continue to do whatever they deem necessary to force their views onto others.

  • Thank you for posting this! Marriage is between a man and a wife! God created Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve. One of God's first commandments was to multiply and replenish the Earth. Two men or two women can't do that!! Why would God allow something that goes against His commandments? That is why we have to stand up for the true definition of marriage!!

  • @yashaazz

Marriage is not a "right" for heterosexuals or homosexuals. It is a privilege and our children need to be taught math, reading etc.. not about an abominable lifestyle.

  • There's no sound legal justification to giving the right and benefit of marriage to heterosexual couples and not to homosexual couples. All leading scholastic experts have found that gay parents are just as qualified to raise children as straight couples. Children simply need to be taught that the world is full of diverse people, in which some daddies like other daddies and some mommies like other mommies, or both. After all that really is how the world works.
