Ford Concept Car. Ford Explorer. The Ford Explorer has crossed over. Not into the great unknown, but into the arena of car-based, unibody construction. The current Explorer's truck-like, body-on-frame construction puts it at a disadvantage to crossover vehicles in the areas of ride, handling and fuel economy (unibody vehicles are generally lighter), and if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. The Explorer America concept also exhibits Ford's forthcoming EcoBoost turbocharging initiative, with a powertrain lineup that includes a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine good for 275 horsepower or a 3.5-liter V6 pumping out 340 horsepower. • @quatlen i'm not saying it should'nt evolve, just that a unibody's the wrong direction, if u want a unibody, go buy a car or minivan, SUV's are for situations where u need 4x4, and for towing, which unibodys suck at, because all they are is sheet metal, whereas a ladder frame provides greater rigidity, which is essential for towing. besides, where i live, unibodys rust out within like 5 years

  • @joek0617 Statistically speaking most Americans use their SUV's as urban crawlers and not as off road vehicles. Ford has proved that the new Explorer is plenty capable off road, although its not as good as the Jeep Grand Cherokee it features better mpgs and a better ride, things that most Americans favor. Ford still left the Expedition for now and if you think if humans never evolved than where would we be? The Explorer is pointed in the right direction.

  • @quatlen yes it is, unibody CANNOT go off road, they will get destroyed, also, unibodys can't handle real towing... entirely defeats the purpose of an SUV

  • dumbasses, unibodys have disadvantages in any rough terrain, and towing, and anything else that need beefy structure, they also suck to work on because the pinch welds where u lift them are often rusted out

unibody= great for car, but sucks for suvs and pickups

  • your voice is annoying as fuck

  • Worked at the KC assembly plant for 8 years. Worked in Paint Trim Chassis and I.P. lines. I would never buy a FORD. They are cheaply made and way over priced. The workers that build your car are generally drunk or high. I've even seen beer cans in door panels numerous times. Management only cares about production not quality. Many laws are broken in production. I've even seen beer cans in door panels.

I agree. I hate this stupid car-based piece of shit. Why are American company's destroying are OWN cars. I have a 2009 explorer and I love it. I need the truck-based off-road capability, and especially the 7,100 Lb towing capability for my boat that I haul. Making our cars smaller is destroying the American style of cars completely.
