The United States' involvement in Vietnam started in early 1959 with military aid and 1,600 advisers. On April 30, 1975, at 8:35 a.m., the last Americans -10 Marines from the embassy - departed Saigon, concluding the U.S. presence in Vietnam. More than 2,644,000 U.S. Army Forces served in Vietnam from 1960 to 1975. There were more than 58,260 Americans who died in the Vietnam War, their names are immortalized on a wall in Washington, D.C. and the moving wall which tours the country.
