what is the elf on the shelf?

@lynseyiriz It's a book with a little elf that you can buy. The concept is that the elf comes out (some people start on December 1, others after Thanksgiving- whenever you start your holiday decorations I guess) to watch over the children and report back to Santa on their behavior. You move the elf to a new spot in the house each night while your children sleep, and they have fun finding him every morning.

@lynseyiriz The rule is that they can't touch the elf either. There are lots of websites with fun ideas for where to hide him and stuff. You can buy a skirt if you want it to be a girl elf too ;) I hope that explains it well enough. There are tons of websites about it.
