Symphony X - "Heretic" Cover (AXE-FX II)

Here's my first cover with my Axe-FX II. It is "Heretic" by Symphony X off their new album "Iconoclast".

edit: Got a few messages already for the setup of my tone on the Axe-fx. I'm gonna try to post the patch soon but for now here it is in writing.

1) BB Pre distortion pedal with gain at about 0.5 and tone at about 5.50

2) Amp: ENGL Energyball with bass at around 2, mids around 3.5, treb at around 3, presence at around 6 and depth around 7. Boost on.

3) Cab is in Stereo mode with 1 Engl 4x12 cab/sm57 mic impulse from Redwire impulses and then a 4x12 Solo V12 with a 421 mic on it.

There's a lot of extra EQ too but the most important is the block high cut filter at about 3500 with about a 0.890 Q.

Obviously with the Axe there is a million other settings that were tweaked but that would take 30 pages to describe :P

I'll post the link to the patch dl when I make a few more tweakes to the tone and get some time to post it.

Dude great cover!! Especially at 4:40. That was near perfect. I've been trying to figure that solo myself but I can't seem to get it. Do you have the solo tabbed out anywhere online?

@Filth1991 Thanks :). I don't have the tabs but if I have some time I can tab out that 4:40 lick for you. It's just a super ridiculous fast blues scale sequence.

Yep. I haven't even got FW 5 yet. I'm waiting to get my 7 string back from the shop. I heard it adds lots of mmph and punch to it though. Gonna be awesome!

@AdamGiaIsMetal Yea I heard from a lot of people that after you upgrade to Firmware 5 you get the entire Tube Feel. Loads of people have been telling me that. I am not in Pakistan at the moment. I am in the middle east. By the way man try the amp and cabinet capturing tool that is in the Axe FxII now. Capture your ENGL Powerball and see how it sounds :D. You know you can do that now right :D. Good luck with the 7 string I remember that beautiful Carvin man. Awesome Guitar.

@AdamGiaIsMetal I certainly will when I make the patches. That's great man,yes the ENGL Powerball is fantastic. But that's one of amp,try the others on the Axe FxII some of them are just phenomenal. I guess it's all about the ear once the ear really is hooked on to something they always tend to like that way more than anything else,nothing wrong with that. Also get Firmware 5 you'll get a lot of tube response through the new Firmware it has a lot of "FEEL" Factor now and lots of punch.

@immortalsoloist Yep! It's all about, as you say, whatever sounds good to the ear. Regardless of it's tone though, the Axe can't be beat in it's ease of use, versatility, customization and amazing sounding effects. It's my favorite piece of gear on all those aspects. But when you have an engl powerball right next to it and compare em side by side you remember why tubes rule!

Always will respect your opinion though too. Send me your patches when you make em!

@AdamGiaIsMetal Whatever sounds good to ones ear. Version 5 is total game changer though that does sound like a tube amp. It all depends to me I could get the Ultra on a damn good level and as for the II I know it's right up there with all the great tube amps. But see it's all opinion. I respect yours brother. Enjoy it :D
