I'm calling it a 1.3

EDIT:

check out this vid for more of a background:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3_UW1OE9-4

If what I'm saying doesn't make sense, I will try to explain:
Normally, the FCC is a dead giveaway of whether or not your model 1 Genesis is a revision 1 or a 1.5:
Rev 1 - FJ846EUSASEGA - No Lockout
Rev 1.5 - FJ8USASEGA - Has Lockout

The Genesis in the middle says FJ846EUSASEGA so you can assume that it is a revision 1, but when you turn it on, The lockout chip notice shows up.

P.S. I forgot to mention in the vid: Rev. 1 looks quite different inside than the Rev 1.3 and 1.5 (about the same inside.)

  • you should clean your games with rubbing alchohol

  • You should learn to read comments ;)

  • Aaaah, I always wanted a Model 1 with the big fat Genesis logo on it, I just love that logo on the front! ^^ But these bully´s are so hard to find here!

Oh one more thing, don´t blow in the cards buddy, use some alcohol and a Q-Tip, these things will work like new when you clean the pins with that! ;)

Why does this video remind me of "I have 3 PS3´s"? ^^

  • I know blowing in the carts doesn't really help, but it's a bad habit I've had because I've done it all my life :)

I've been cleaning them lately with a microfiber cloth and sometimes some electronic contact cleaner (when I don't feel like blowing.....)

  • To correct my previous comment, that only applies to Japanese systems... and since mine is American, I have the most common HDG model 1... That'll teach me to boast about a lie.

  • I just got a "No-E" Genesis, but on the motherboard it says it is a VA5. Now this is where it's strange: one of the graphics chips has writing near it stating VA5 has an older (probably non-TMSS) chip, but VA6 has a different newer chip that does have TMSS (and that's what's there). If it makes a difference, this was made in Thailand.

Just thought I'd bring that up to add to the TMSS mess.

  • sell me one genesis model 1

  • That's interesting, but I can assure you that these were all given to me by the original owners (my grandparents) and that no one in the family would have swapped because the weird wax seal was still in tact on all three of these before i broke the seals to clean them.

  • As for FJ846EUSASEGA systems, there exist NONE with TMSS. If you find one with TMSS, the previous owner swapped the casing of a TMSS unit with that of a non-TMSS Genesis Model 1. Sega changed the FCC ID when they added TMSS, making it impossible for there to be FJ846EUSASEGA Genesis Model 1s with TMSS unless someone changed the casing.

  • No Genesis is region-free. There are 2 sets of jumpers that determine the language of the system(Japanese, English) and the video output(NTSC, PAL). TMSS is to lock out unlicensed games. Some games have code that detect the region settings in the console, and will only run if the region settings on the console match those of the game.

  • I was wondering this, for the regional lockout and codes/ID numbers...

Well I have two different Genesis with two different numbers, the one with the e and the one without the e.

It doesn't show the sega enterprises screen (but I could have sworn it used it)

Anyways... What exactly is the regional lockout?

From what I see it still has lockout.

Pulseman, Sonic Spinball don't work, but sonic 1 and 2 do.

Do all FJ846EUSASEGA have region free, or only some of them?
