On a fall Friday 7 huge yachts went up the lake at a slow cruise speed. They caused no damage, and almost no wake. Then there was an eighth yacht that ran fast, and could not control his wake.
On Sunday afternoon they returned back down the lake showing no respect for others safety, or property. As long as these huge ocean going cruisers are allowed to operate out of control, the lake of the Ozarks will retain the title "most dangerous lake in America." These yachts are running many boaters away because of the wakes often four feet or more.
Lake of the Ozarks is a very narrow lake, and there are very few places on the lake that these huge boats can operate safely. Some say education of the operators is what is needed, but it has been tried for some time with no results.
Maybe the answer is do like many areas in Florida. That is to run at "Slow speed", if less than 1,000 feet from a shoreline, or boat dock. Except we would limit this requirement to boats with a capacity plate exceeding 10,000 lbs to run at "Slow speed". Almost the only place the lake is 2,000 feet from shore to shore is from the dam to the Grand Glaze arm of the lake. "slow speed" means Vessels must be fully off plane and completely settled in the water as seen in the first part of this video.
i agree i feel sorry for all the people that fish out of fishing boats. i use a pontoon when im there and it gets scary in it.
