Iran began a massive air, land and sea exercise Thursday in the Persian Gulf aimed at showcasing the Islamic regime's military strength, state-run media reported.

Dubbed the "Great Prophet 5," the military maneuvers conducted by the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps fall on the 31st anniversary of the elite force and are designed to demonstrate new weapons systems.

  • The purpose of those rocket-armed speedboats simply eludes me - what could they possibly achieve against a modern warship of any sort?

  • @Zyamaman - Suicide attacking modern warships in small speedboats!!!

  • They can show off as much as they wish, but I bet if the "Great Satan" wants to take controll over the country by force they´ll do It.

The defeat of the Islamic Republic will then come from above. Iran stands no chance protecting itself against U.S. air power.

  • @sherlock72 you obviously havent seen their anti aircraft system.

  • @soreno32 - You sure?

You mean a merchant? I was talking about warships, not merchants.

  • @Zyamaman Sink a ship and block 33% of oil transport in the world

  • @dailyasshole

Problem with shore ASM batteries is that their range is limited by earth's curvature - they need external guidance beyond the 50km range, and carriers don't hang out that close to shore (precisely for that very reason).

And Iran simply doesn't have the capability to guide those missiles inside the carrier's air wing-controlled airspace (it's about 500km in radius).

  • @Zyamaman no I meant those that will be launched from the ground,al along the persian gulf they are stationed,Im sure we also have suicide vessels and submarines in very high number, one thing is sure:this tactic might give us a chance in the INEVITiBLE coming war with us navy, any other tactic or conventional way is plain suicide without any chance.

even if dont manage to win which wont happen anyway,we manage to kill and wound as much americans as possible, and that might make us the winner.

  • @dailyasshole

Yes, and those missiles weight about twice as much as those speedboats, and attempting to launch one of them from such a puny vessel will simply disintegrate it - that would be very much like trying to mount a 155mm howitzer on a Honda Civic...

  • @Zyamaman long ago there was a spanish armada with big ships against small dutch speedboats against all odds the spanish armada was destroyed by the dutch,if the dutch had sent conventional big ships they would stand no chance, these ships are part of a bigger picture, iran also has state of the arts russian and chinese anti ship missiles

  • @soreno32 What is it a giant sling shot with a bomb strapped jihadist ?

  • @sherlock72 jajajajajajaja
