faulty Seagate 20GB laptop hard disk opened up and plugged in to external HDD controller. You can see the read/write head moving accross the spinning platter but the disk does not initialise properly with the head clicking. Windows recognises that the hardware (PCMCIA drive controller) is installed but the drive cannot be accessed. When the drive is removed, the head automatically parks.

  • it shouldn't make that scratch noise when it moves over the platter

  • I agree that the scratch noise is wrong, the disk was faulty and I could not read any data on it.
