Souvenirs - Dan Fogelberg
"Souvenirs" was written in California 1971 by greatest singer/songwriter Dan Fogelberg. It is the title song of "Souvenirs" album released 1974. Special thanks to River a.k.a Mariaglenn in helping me capture the true feeling of Dan. We know Dan was going through a difficult time when he wrote this song. It's one of the most moving songs ever written, I have to do it very carefully. Credit given to those photographers/artists for their beautiful art work creation. I dedicate this beautiful poetry song to all DanFan for your passions with Dan, may his music everlasting in our hearts! Dan, we thank you so much for this timeless souvenir....
(Souvenirs Lyrics)

Here is a poem that my lady sent down
Some morning while I was away
Wrote on the back of a leaf that she found
Somewhere around Monterey

And here is the key to a house far away
Where I used to live as a child
They tore down the building when I moved away
And left the key unreconciled

(Chorus)

And down in the canyon the smoke starts to rise
It rides on the wind 'til it reaches your eyes
When faced with the past the strongest man cries...cries

(Repeat Chorus)

And here is a sunrise to set on your sill
The ghosts of the dawn moving near
They pass through your sorrow and leave you quite still...
Sitting among souvenirs

  • @SoothesMySoul Well said...

  • This song reminds me of college days - I love it.

  • Just listen to Dan's lyrics. All so true; all of his lyrics are~captivating. Thank you for this. Lovely.

  • Beautiful music, Dan will be missed dearly.

  • @jakski seldom seen a scarecrows dream i hang in the hopes of replacement....WOW,,

  • your music ,writtings and compositions,,changed my life

  • I had this album in the 70's. I've loved Dan Fogelbergs music and lyrics since. This song always makes me cry. I grew up in what used to be a very small town, grandparents living one house away. When my parents sold the house and moved...this song just said everything I felt.

  • This song is one of those which could always get to me in so many ways. Yeah, understood so well. The whole album was classic as were so many of his (he didn't scrimp on non-hit songs and leave heart out of them). For someone buying this album 3 times because they played it so much, understood. This, Place in the World for a Gambler, Long Way, on and on, were all so great. We still have those songs with us. He is gone now, leaving us sitting among souvenirs.

  • When I was kid.My parents lived in a home and when we moved away it got tore down. Two of my uncles died of alcohol and drug overdose. My high school bf died in a truck accident. This song speaks to me very deeply. It touches my heart more than most songs do.May God put him in heaven because he deserves it.God bless him.

  • I have to admit that I bought this album three times because two messed up,yet I remember the album Souvenirs really well.Part of the Plan was the first track of it and There's a place in the world for the Gambler was the last track. It is sad that he had to pass away.
