Dionysus rescues Selenus. The God of Drunkeness and Excess is shown rescuing Selenus, the old man, the historian who gets drunk to blunt his frustration that the human race fails to take notice of history. As a result, people are accursed to make the mistakes of history over and over again.

The appearance of Dionysus, Bacchus, is often accompanied by violence, perceived to a threat to conventional order. Rescue by Dionysus is therefore very uncomfortable, and results in disorder. From that disorder, a new order emerges.

Historic houses in England in private curatorship have _no_ help whatsoever but in their opening to the public are a deep and irreplaceable cultural resource.

  • Hello,

just saw your place in "London Boulevard",

I may well pop round one day thank you !

  • @kikko4E It's a great film isn't it!? Presumably you saw it on DVD? Sadly a lot of the Hammerwood scenes were cut and compressed into a few snapshot stills . . . I'd love to see the uncut version of the film - but the cutting left one pulsingly adrenalised rather than looking at one's watch wondering when it's going to end . . .

  • Hey, have been to this place years ago! You need to see that garden in summer with all that fantastic flowers...

And the people living there, restoring and hard working are so nice and showed us around.

    Thanks again! :)

    Brgds from Vienna

  • Hi! Thanks for your comment - it inspired me to go out in the snow - search "Christmas Dionysian Whirl" to see the pics . . .

  • i really want to see more videos about ur house :) Lenka

  • These stone carvings are some of the few clues we have to how life was before tv, internet etc... so much ancient folklore and knowledge of local history has been hidden from us. This fact makes me insanely curious.
