Would you want a joint to be in the middle of a door jamb? I guess that's the way a guy who makes a video about not using a pullbar, and the first thing he does is use a pullbar does it. He leaves debris under the floor when he cuts the tongue off, shouldn't you do that somewhere else. I think you should join 2 pieces and glue it down there, instead of dealing with a small piece at the end.
for a better finish you can cut the skirtinging with a jamb or multitool anf use underside of laminate as a guide for the multitool cutter. i find doing this if you dont want to rip off the skirting if you have plasterboard walls leave you with a professional finish.
