Earth as Seed

This is a compilation of a few clips from Brian Swimme's DVD series "Canticle to the Cosmos" program #6 "A Magical Planet" (1990) - available at http://www.brianswimme.org/ - which is based on Thomas Berry's principle #5 for Understanding the Universe (p.146 in his book "Evening Thoughts"). The program (and the principle) is about the self-organizing nature of Earth. In this particular compilation of excerpts Swimme describes something of the magical balance of gravity and electromagnetism on Earth, as compared to that of Mars and Jupiter or any other planet in our Solar system, that enabled life to come forth here. He likens the planets to seeds in the soil of solar energy. Brian Swimme's talk here is about one of the dimensions of Earth's sacred balance ---- in the context of enabling Her fluid nature, contributing to Her self-organizing and magical capacities.

I use this video excerpt in my year-long class of Celebrating Cosmogenesis in the Wheel of the Year (http://pagaian.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=843 ), as we prepare for the Autumn Equinox ritual. It is part of the Seasonal Moment's contemplation on the Seed, on the magic of Earth, and reflecting on the magical Balance essential to Creativity.
