What a Great Piece! :)
I recently had the opportunity to Sing Ruggero's Part @ Washington National Opera's Opera Institute, and i will never forget it.

As usual M; Alagna does not sing but shouts and thinks this is the way to be convincing! He's the worst comedian that ever existed on a stage and I will never understand the snobism that made his success; Recently in Paris he has literally massacred Giordano's Francesca da Rimini. I completely agree with the decision of Milano' Scala to fire him a few years ago. The only moment in Rondine's production where he is at last credible is at the end of the last scene for personal reasons.

La voce non mi piace....la linea del canto si,bravo !

@CONTESTAR that day, she would probably have better engaged Mimì :-P

The music is so beautiful, but this opera's libretto is just badly written. It's a shame; had it not been for that, it may have been a masterpiece.

@DavidoffGustav I absolutely agree about Kiri-Domingo.
To Gheorghiu's defence one must say that she was pushed by the MET management to sing the transmission evening having taken all sorts of medication to make it, being seriously ill! I watched it and without knowing then what was happening, I thought she looked downright terrified at moments. Reading later what she went through made sense...
One can notice a tremendous difference of her being in control in the bit posted with Filianoti.

How sad that this is the finale for Roberto and Angela appearing together. Also sad is that the DVD is in 4.3 format and not 16.9. WHY???
-
I am biased as I bought this when I was in Italy, then met my husband to be who when after cooking our first dinner, I gave it to him. We then went to see this production, Then engaged and married.

Domingo and TeKanawas recording are my all time favorites.. TeKanawa sings with absolutely no effort in every note.. she simply loves the part.. ie at 2:14 effort here with Kiri shere bliss

nice costumes, mamasitas, it is pitifully in italian and french subtitles but it's ok I love it!
Un hermoso momento musical, gracias al genio del Maestro Puccini ese dia fue maravilloso, Gracias Roberto por el boleto y por el cd.
