There were no injuries, but one of them was pretty terrified. We stayed at that hotel again shortly after this and our room was on the 25th floor, we were up and down all day so we actually ended up taking that elevator. I hear these elevators get stuck all the time. I have a pretty big fear of elevators now though lol

@rodney1279 That's what we think, people working at the hotel said the cables looked loose. If you pause the video and look closely you can see one of the cables is lagging compared to the others. We think the cable snapped and the brakes stopped them from falling.

@Julester27 if it makes you feel any better, glass elevators are no different than regular elevators, with the exception that regular elevators are typically lifted by a single set of cables in the center of the car, where as glass elevators are usually lifted by a dual set of cables on each side of the car (the cables are recessed in the walls on each side and attached to the elevator car to hide them so it looks cleaner).

why did you have to stop filming?

You can hear the safety gear operate, I dont think the small waight of the girls would have caused it to operate and the ropes would go slack as the car bounced up and would be caught in the "v"sheave of the machine on the waight side , I wonder why they did not hand wind the car to disengage the safety gear unless the wedge's realy dug in to the guides causeing this to be difficult.

@SAMIEWALLFORD756 wtf is that English?!
-
@Julester27 there are more than one cable on the elevator so it wouldn't have fallen if just one snapped
-
The jumping caused the safety switch in the governor to open and shut the car down just like it was designed to.
-
Or the jumping could have triggered the earthquake sensors

A stop that sudden means only one thing. It has to do with the e-brake. The brake has arms, the elevator fails somehow( overspeed-rope fail) and th arms in the brake swing out locking the elevator in place.

@JackpodyDK Just because someone tells you to do something doesn't mean you have to. I would understand if you were recording the hotel employee, but the recording was of the elevators and other guests at the hotel, and unless I am mistaken there is no law that prevents you from recording something in a public place.

@dunde8889 Thing is, when a person (probably an employee from the hotel) asks you politely to stop recording, you stop recording. Doing anything else would be rude and just a dick move.
Looks like the counterweight safeties were set/actuated. No cable was broken or there would have been an even louder noise. Even is the power went out, the safeties and the brakes on the motor would have held.

@HitlersCat1 The sound was a lot louder than it sounds, people came out of there rooms to see what happened.

@Julester27 idk why you though breaks would give without power... they are designed to work with or without power ot keep them out :p btw, why do you still use that one?!

@iToasterman They probably did work without power, but the people trying to get them out were nervous about it anyway. I have no idea how they convinced me to use those elevators again, but my sister (the one who was stuck) insisted we ride on them to 'get over our fears'. All I know is they still scare me to death lol

Why did you have to stop recording?

@Ham549 One of the hotel receptionists asked me too. You here him tell me to stop recording if you listen closely at the end.
