Rollini was a brilliant vibraphonist who played piano-style 4-mallet techniques early on. On this track you can hear his soprano-mallet melody as well as switching to inner voicings. He came to the vibe from the xylophone, so it seems clear that there's a Red Norvo influence too, but he was initially a bass saxophonist of legendary status first, working with the California Ramblers and then Bix Beiderbecke, Frankie Trumbauer. On this track also check out his chorus on chimes! Too cool.
@Osocooltwo Not the baritone sax - although I'm sure he could play it too. Roliini is actually known for being a master of the bass saxophone, and he was one of its greatest champions.
@kdegru - souds like you appreciate the absolute BEST in music.

Great memories here. I have this LP handed down to me by my father. It is autographed by Rollini. My Dad and Mom began their Honeymoon in a NYC hotel in 1952, where Rollini was featured and they heard him play live. My Dad especially liked it when Rollini would do a break on the chimes. I grew up hearing this and many others recordings my Dad had of Rollini including 16" radio transsciption music service records. Years later I discovered Rollini's super hot bass sax breaks which wow me.

@bach2117 - absolutely. He was a child prodigy on piano, genius of bass sax, equally genius on vibes.

Sounds like the typical Postwar Era Jazz that was popular during the 1945-1960 period.
