The Burnsville-Eagan-Savage Board of Education approved next year's budget that shows a $3.1 million deficit. District Business Manager Mark Stotts said the recent cuts from the Governor would not affect the district's revenues for its budget, but it would affect future cash flow. How much the district's cash flow will be impacted is not known at this time.
The board postponed putting its budget priorities list together at a workshop after the meeting.
The board also approved a report of Superintendent Randy Clegg's first evaluation conducted June 4. The board discussed how Clegg met the six standards in the evaluation form and how he has been doing this year.
Burnsville High School Principal Dave Helke proposed a new 5-year action plan to improve curricular scheduling at BHS, part of which will help students in next fall's Envision Academy of the Arts integration program have all core classes at the Diamondhead Education Center closer to the Burnsville Performing Arts Center where they will have their arts classes.
The board also discussed and approved a number of co-curricular activities and stipend positions for current activities, but delayed funding for them for at least two years. Staff recommended the delay because of the tough times ahead for budget cuts, but approving the activities now will help with presenting stipends in teacher negotiations later. Board director Dan Luth proposed to add the BHS Fellowship of Christian Athletes as an approved co-curricular activity, but that failed to pass. The board discussed the legality of a state entity like the school district endorsing a religious-affiliated activity like the FCA.
