This quick video will show you how you can connect your real hardware networking equipment such as Cisco routers and switches into your PC running Ubuntu 11.10/12.04 using serial-to-USB adapter.
Most, if not all, of the current motherboards do not come with pre-built COM (AKA serial) ports any more, so this video will show you how you can connect to the adapter using an excellent program called 'minicom'.
Regards,
Khaled

You need to change the resolution of the video into 720p or 1080p. You can do that at the bottom right hand side of the video.

dude, i have a question, i have a standard USB-to-serial cable , and my linux load my driver but when i execute minicom the output is strange like garbage. my UTM provider told me to use BPS to 112500. what can it be? i use a serial port and works fine.

Rubbish output is usually due to different bit rates between the network element and the adapter. See if changing it into different values may help clear out the output.

It's easier if you use putty and 4 serial sessions =D

Not really. If you follow the other Ubuntu videos (and even Windows 7), you can use the Gnome Connection Manager in Ubuntu and mRemote in Windows and you're set. You don't have to launch 4 Putty sessions one by one, instead on click on these applications and you're connected to the four switches :)

Yes, you can use it with Windows 7 as well. As a matter of fact, using it on Windows 7 is straight forward. I will upload a video at some stage of how to do that.
