The Channel 4 announcer at the beginning says "and thats your alternative Hogmany on Channel 4", the viewer is meant to believe that "alternative" stands for alternative comedy, but infact it means alternative as it's actual meaning. So we get a backwards trail.

who is the longest serving announcer on channel 4? There is two of them who have been announcing shows on channel 4 since the early 1990s!

At the moment, the longest serving Channel 4 announcer is Gary Terzza, IIRC he joined in 1991.
The other announcer who has been there since the early 1990s, 1993 to be precise, is David McLeod.
