I live near Portland, Oregon where this event takes place at Chapman School every September when the Vaux Swifts are migrating. There is a documentary on PBS about this phenomena called "On The Wing"....catch it if you can. You will love it!!

this is happening in the tree's at he bottom of my garden, everyday when i get home from school i watch millions of swifts fly around and the dive into the tree's all at the same time its amazing!!

I went to see the swifts for a school report. Took more than an hour to get all the birds in the chimney!

yes in fact, i was there last eve. and there were HUNDREDS of people sitting out on the school lawn to watch.Quite amazing!

Had the crowd gathered specially to observe this? I'm particularly impressed by the strength of the influx, similar but more coordinated that Chimney Swifts perhaps.
