@kingofcouture1996 Im pretty sure the hoop things were made out of wood. I never got to wear a corset with one so I don't know how that felt. I did talk to some people who did wear them though and they said it wasn't that bad. they didn't tie them so that they would be thinner but so they could have support. I worked in a farming town place set in the 1860s so high fashion wasn't a main concern in farming towns. I would love to try one on though some day.

@hmulli Yes,i can see what your saying.Everything i know has been taught to me or read in books and all of those primary sources say they were very uncomfortable and cumbersome but as i am a man i have not had the pleasure of wearing one :),i suppose the whalebone corsets would have had an effect as well with all the pressure going to the ladys waist, what was the hoop you wore made from?

@kingofcouture1996 Because of my interest in History, I have worn a hoop skirt and the petticoats along with it. It isn't as difficult as she makes it seem. the only thing that was uncomfortable was after standing for a long time, the skirts hurt your waist because their weight is held up by the bones at your waist. Walking in them was pretty simple and to prevent the skirts from flipping up you just had to sit upright on the edge of your chair.

@hmulli The actual crinolines or hoop skirts were very heavy and difficult to move in,also you would have had about 3 or 4 linen petticoats over the crinoline. It was really hard to sit without the hoop going above your ears!

walking in a hoop skirt is not that hard...

I really like their sense of humour about this but, their un-period hair mess (why bother with a corset if hair is just as is), their tendancy to speak with their mouths full and then the incredible waste of food all reduce considerably my pleasure in watching this.
thumbs up if u want a third series :)

Haha. Giles effortly becomes Mr Darcy or Shakespeare or any other historical dandy and clearly revels in it, and then there's Sue forever looking as uncomfortable as a cat stuffed into a funny suit. It's a good combination.
