The 12951/12952 Mumbai Rajdhani Express connects Mumbai and Delhi. It is one of the fastest trains in India.
The 12951/12952 Mumbai Rajdhani Express is the fastest train on the Mumbai - Delhi sector and the fastest Rajdhani train. It is a daily service. It operates as train number 12951 from Mumbai Central to New Delhi Railway Station and as train number 12952 in the reverse direction. It reaches Mumbai Central at 8:35AM after Jaipur Superfast Express.It covers a distance of 1385 kilometres in each direction however it takes 15 hours 50 mins when operating as train number 12951 at an average speed of 87.47 km/h (excluding halts) while its return journey as train number 12952 takes 16 hrs 05 mins at an average speed of 86.05 km/h (excluding halts) thus making it the fastest train on the Mumbai - Delhi sector. It has 4 halts in either direction at Surat (recently added), Vadodara Junction, Ratlam Junction & Kota Junction.
It departs Mumbai Central with a Valsad WCAM 2P locomotive in order to use Mumbai's DC traction wires and switches power on-the-fly in a dead zone between Borivali and Dahisar from where onwards it is a pure AC line. There is a loco change over at Vadodara. A WCAM-2P of the Valsad Shed hauls the train between Mumbai Central and Vadodara where it switches over to a WAP5 or WAP7 engine from the Ghaziabad shed.
