@pef286 My Dad was there also. He was a sargeant in the 1st infantry. He had already gone through C Day, St Lo and Paris. His squad of 8 men took a mortar hit and he was the only survivor, he spent the next 2 years in army hospitals. He earned a sliver star, bronze star, purple heart, 4 battle stars plus an arrowhead for being in the first wave to land at Normandy. He threw them all in the garbage, said they were worthless shit that only reminded him of the hell he lived through

What a horrible, senseless and terrible war. So many good young men and women died on both sides. So many people who coul have changed the world lost. War is so useless! So many years later the grandsons of these veterans are arguing who had the better troops and technology, but who cares?

My Dad was there. Said "All hell broke lose" Never said hell much. Where he was it was every man for himself. Was wounded in combat a few days after the named battle was over.
