  • RIP Sparky

  • @ckendall67 and the padres had tony gwynn on both teams along with bruce bochy who was a backup catcher in 84

  • Yeah, not much in the way of drama either in the regular season or postseason.

'Course, when it's *your* team doing the dominating, it ain't boring...it's great!

  • Heh, awkward. "(Dead air) Mr. President?? (Dead air) Mr. President???"

You can add the 2001 Mariners as well. 47-12 by June had to get boring.

  • 25 years ago today, October 14th, 1984, the '84 Detroit Tigers celebrated as World Series Champions:-) That Tigers was truely the most dominant team that year, started the season 35-5, won 104 games, squashed Kansas City in the ALCS, & took out the Padres rather easily in the World Series.

BTW, there's another common link between the '84 Tigers & 1998 Yankees, they both beat the Padres in the World Series each year...:-)

  • The '84 Tigers were alot alike the 1998 Yankeea. No players with off the charts stats and uet both produce arguably two of the best MLB clubs ever.

Also both clubs lost only '1' in the playoffs.

I know Reds fans may scream but in a dream world series the '84 Tigers is the best club ever for Sparky.

  • ESPN ranked this Tigers team #10 all time. I remember Thom Boswell saying that this was the boringest year ever for a baseball writer. I can see his point. The Tigers were just so dominant that year.

  • I was only 4 years old then, but I remember all the hype that year....25 years later, tigs do it again in '09!

  • yes it was
