Strange whining noise coming from the transaxle that goes away when the clutch is engaged. My father thinks it could be a throw out bearing, any ideas are welcome.

  • I know this has been along time ago but I have a friend with a bus with exact same problem and was wondering what fixed it? if you could tell me so we can get it his fixed! thanks

  • @SPAGIRLGA It kind of just went away, haha I think it happened b/c the car sat for so long. I think it just had to be run through the gears a few times. I think it may be the input bearing on the transmission that may be starting to howl.

  • yea mine goes away after a little warming up too. i dont know about the clutch play this is my first old vw, so I don't know what's normal... it seems fine to me, goes through the gears fine and catches at a reasonable place

  • Mine does that too, goes away when it warms up though. I don't think you need to worry about it. My throw out bearing was replaced. How is your clutch play?
