I literally have 8,324 plays of this on my itunes/ipod. I swear to God. Cuz i have it on a loop when i go to bed, and since I have an insomnia disorder it puts me to sleep so fast and gives me sweet dreams. I love this song so much.

The biggest thing that dwarfs this series is it never got the NES precursor. Because series like Dragon Warrior, Mario, Zelda and others debuted strong and steady on the NES while this was shorted, EB sales weren't really great. In Japan, they were fine; by the time the SNES came out, NES players had learned that true and steady won the race, and series that had hung true were picked up while Earthbound was left in the dust.
If only Mother had actually been released, we might have Mother 3.
