  • Siegel is an idiot.Calorie restriction research has been done on many animals including baboons.

  • Yeah and Dr. Johnson should have mentioned that fasting every other day lowers blood pressure, lowers risk of Type 2 diabetes, and lowers bad cholesterol levels. Dr. Siegel should calm down a little.

  • Is this woman really the best representative for your diet? You even rebuke her for eating too low on a down-day. If you want people to hear you out and give credence to the diet, you should have someone who says they have 3 egg whites for breakfast and then 5 oz. of chicken with broccoli for lunch and then 6 oz. of tilapia with califlower for dinner. Not a graham cracker and a pre-packaged frozen dinner. I think this diet could be healthy, but not the way she's doing it.

  • This diet works! (At least for me) Doing it about 2 weeks and now my legs and shoulder get toner :D ! The downday is not that hard, it just requires strong will power :D And your reward will be on your UPDAY! But don't binge on junk, u can binge on upday but make sure it's good stuff.

To me, this diet is the easiest so far. Easy to stick to and i might eat like this like habit from now on.

But i just want some info about is this diet suits everyone? I'm 16 and 'ev been doing this for 5 months.

  • If the dietitian has one more facelift she won't be able to blink

  • Thanks everyone for your comments. There is no question that the Alternate Day Diet produces dramatic health-promoting effects very quickly and reduces body fat while retaining muscle better than any daily diet. The ideal macronutrient content should be lean protein, minimal refined carbohydrate or starch, and a high ratio of plant fats to animal fats. In addition, a variety of low calorie vegetables and fruit, 5 or more servings per day is optimal. James B. Johnson, M.D.

  • The Dietitian seemed to be really pissed off, but seriously America is getting FATTER and FATTER as we speak and I feel that SOMETHING is better than NOTHING, she is talking about long term success but most people do not have the WILL to diet. My suggestion is to GIVE UP all animal products and follow a low fat, low protein, high carb diet like 80 10 10, or AT LEAST add MORE FRUITS AND VEG'S to your DIET, stop feeding your body trash and expecting to be Thin, it's not going to happen.

  • @TheJaymeCannon Yep, and She doesn't look healthy or sound healthy herself!!

  • eating crap every other day isn't good either...idea is to eat more, but of good stuff, with ocassional treats. For me it means I can eat feta cheese and other dairy without feeling bad about it, but I still eat mainly fruits and veggies because I just love them. Do I eat burgers? Yes, but only home-made.

  • One gram of protein per kilogram of body weight is plenty on non-workout days. For your body weight that means 65 grams, which is 260 calories. You are probably aware that it is helpful to consume extra protein around the time of a resistance training workout.

  • Hello! I am 20 years old and my height is 5 feet 8 inches and weight is 144 lbs. I have worked out for a year and now I am looking to increase some serious muscle mass.So I was advised to train only for 3 alternate days a week with high intensity. Now,my question is that what should be my protein intake on the days that I dont workout?

  • I trust Dr. Johnson more than the money changers.
