Edited by Renato Sommexe, in this video recorded at frankfurt 1986 we have the chance to see Alan, Gary Husband on drums, Jimmy Johnson on Bass and the amazing extraordinary Key akagi on keys at the time using the best keyboards available, yamaha CP80 for pianos and Yamaha DX7 for synth sounds, sometimes stealing the scene showing a tremendous intimacy with alan's complicated compositions, some of them not featuring keyboads in the original recording, in others replacing the also magnificent Alan Pasqua a long term partner in alan's career. Key akagi also can be seen here at youtube on Miles Davis tour in a Kitaro Look due to the long hair. Also alike is his presence in one of Dimeola's 80's shows and you can hear his improvisations along with tavaglione's wind controller synth solos in gambale's alive album which I long to see one day in video also, if someone has it please get in touch, let's share.

You really nailed it - it is the combination of JJ's precision and melodic sensitivity and Gary's creativity and "GO FOR IT" attitude that makes them one of my all-time favorite rhythm sections.

  • Brutal solo. He one of my favorites. I like the fact that he always pushes himself to the limit and then reigns it back in...he's not afraid of not being perfectly clean all the time.I met him the first time at Summerfest in Milwaukee years ago. We talked drums for about 15 minutes before he finally said to me "you seem like a great guy and all, but do you know any girls here?"

  • oh, i love gary but tokyo dream needs to be played by chad... sorry but he has a lot of unique sound on this track and gary doesnt play cup chimes and china, i think its important to the drum beat

  • i cant believe allan is smiling...i think i'm going to tatoo a picture of him when i have the money

It's rather unfortunate this gig was even filmed in the first place. Jimmy, Allan and Gary all had very weird, incorrect gear they had to make work at the last minute, on this the first date of a European tour. I know for a fact Gary had to make do with sticks (not his) almost double the weight of his own as a lot of equipment didn't turn up. All this coupled with Allan's Synthaxe suffering huge gremlins on the night too. It's kind of shame. These were not great circumstances.
