People who are accustomed to small things, i.e. cell phones, laptops, and economy cars, would think the dinosaurs had returned if they found themselves standing in this land. Those machines are just plain HUGE!

I think it would be cool if you posted a vid on how you change one of those tires..

Where is this loader?

nice

Straight metal wheels are bumpy as shit on surfaces that aren't flawless. So the tires improve the quality of the ride I suppose. And I think they've got quite a bit longer life than 6 months.
Chains on the existing tires seems to be a happy medium.

but its wheey cheaper than replacing the tires... those tires cost 60 grand each .. according to national geographic...

I don't get it. At one MILLION dollars for 4 tires with chains and only 6 month life?
Why not just make a steel wheel like the old tractors? A fraction of the cost and many times the life.
How long do they last

The lifetime of tire/tyre protection chains is dependent on the application. Influencing factors are...
- type of rock (e.g. copper)
- hardness of rock
- etc.
In this particular mine (very abrasive rock) the lifetime of the chains is more than 8.000 operating hours. Other copper mines get more than 15.000 hours. The main benefits of using chains are the dramatic extension of tire lifetime and the increase of productivity!
