Reward: http://moozar.com/reward/2058 THIS is a very rare, RARE moment captured on video at home in the privacy of one of the greatest Kings of House music. House pioneer, Mickey Oliver reveals a 10 minute demonstration of "Turntablism", an art form he helped developed during the early 1980's.

"Turntablist"
One who actually performs and then manipulates sound by improvising on a phonograph turntable. One who uses the turntable as a musical instrument. One who performs by touching and moving records. A DJ just plays music.

  • Thanks for that. I bought a few of his records but never heard any of his "Turntablism" before.

  • 1. Answering Machine - Calling Mr. Telephone

    2. Nightmoves - Transdance (NYC Mix)

    3. Dharma - Plastic Doll

    4. Lime - Angel Eyes

    5. Mickey Oliver - In-Ten-Si-T

    6. Chip E - If You Only Knew

In the live sequences he also plays Sweet D - Thank Ya and some Jungle Brothers - I'll House You

  • He's one of the best ever! Trust me, I know because I was the host of the Saturday Night Live "Ain't No Jive" Chicago Dance Party that featured the Hot Mix 5.

  • 3:16 What song is that? This guy is amazing!

  • thanks you houzbizness :)

  • @Blackholes81

As far as I can hear it's Transdance by Night Moves or a least a version of that classic track. Hope that helped.

  • Can anyone know the records on 0:55

  • My favorite parts of the video are the parts with him on stage spinning live on turntables using vinyl in front of the huge crowd! Today most of the dj's are computer phonies who hide behind a laptop cause they have no REAL DJ SKILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Mickey, just one of the greats who inspired me i started mixing at age 12(back in 82) and almost 29yrs later i'm still spinning and still loving it!!!
