On Jan. 1, 2010, Members of the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit and Dive Rescue Team responded to a report of an occupied vehicle in the water at the Meldrum Bar Park area along the Willamette River.
Marine personnel soon discovered an SUV-type vehicle had been driven by three occupants to the outermost point on Meldrum Bar for an afternoon of fishing. After a period of extensive rain showers, the Willamette River began to rise rapidly. The three fishermen attempted to return to shore in the vehicle. During the effort to drive their vehicle off the bar, the vehicle became enveloped in the increasing water and stalled -- leaving the trio stranded in the rapidly rising Willamette River.
Fortunately, a Good Samaritan boater was in the area and came to the trio's aid....
