The requirement for being a superpower is the ability to project power on a worldwide scale and regardless of the state of our economy, we are the only country still capable of doing so. Debt? That's only so much paper. Debts are forgiven every day. Argentina, Brazil, they were teetering on the brink of insolvency but their debt was forgiven, largely because the consequences of not doing so could have been disastrous.

@MrCatseyes01 It's called strategic planning. Of course the government makes deals with unpleasant people. You don't become a superpower or remain one for very long without making hard decisions. All great powers from the Greeks, Egyptians, Romans, etc. throughout history make decisions based on what will best serve their interests whether or not they are particularly moral or ethical. That's reality. The sooner you wake up to that reality and stop being so idealistic, the better off you'll be.

Bad thing about the internet is that what passes for "news" is virtually unfiltered.
